EcoSwiss for Villages and Resorts

A luxury resort with an international clientele located on three atolls in the Maldives. Equipped with different restaurants with local and international cuisine that manage about 600 guests on average. Each facility is equipped with two EFR100 EcoSwiss systems.

  • Type of organic waste: pasta, rice, bread, vegetables, fruit, and fish.
    Preparation activity: about 1800 meals/day

Issues

The waste collection is managed directly by the accommodation facilities that store the organic waste in somewhat secluded places, smelly, attracting insects, mice, and birds.
The waste thus obtained is transported weekly by barge near the capital Malé to islands intended for the collection and incineration of waste.

This strategy is very expensive and, above all, in strong contrast with the image of the resorts, as well as in stark opposition to the political objectives of the Maldivian government, aimed at ecological sustainability to protect the atolls and the coral reef.

Adopted solution

Purchase and implementation of 7 EFR100 EcoSwiss devices to manage all the wet organic waste produced daily by the various structures.

Installation of the machinery in the areas reserved for catering services, adjacent to the preparation area represented by the main kitchen of the resorts. The small amount of condensation water produced is disposed of in the nearby drain.

Average daily quantity of resulting product, reusable directly on the island as soil conditioner for plants and flowers: 10-15 Kg per device

  • Total elimination of costs and management for the disposal of organic waste, thanks to the elimination of the need to store and transport them by sea
